Ooltewah High School JROTC Honors Local Veterans, Participates in Dedication of 'Veterans Circle' Roundabout
Chattanooga, Tennessee — Members of Ooltewah High School's JROTC Owl Battalion played a pivotal role in a special ceremony dedicated to honoring local veterans and officially naming a prominent roundabout in Ooltewah as 'Veterans Circle.' The event, held at the intersection of Ooltewah-Georgetown Road and Mountain View Road, was announced by Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp and County Commission Chairman Jeff Eversole.
During the commissioning of the Veterans Circle, the Ooltewah High School JROTC Owl Battalion provided a six-man flag detail, raising the flag to commemorate the occasion. The JROTC will continue its commitment by ensuring the flag is flown at the appropriate times and maintained at the proper level.
Cadet Captain Clayton Jones, Charlie Company Commander, LET 4, Senior, expressed his gratitude, stating, "Being given the opportunity to raise this flag for Veterans Day is a huge honor. To me, it's my way of saying 'Thank You' to all the service men and women who sacrificed everything, including those who were never welcomed back home."
In addition to their flag duties, Ooltewah's JROTC has taken on the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness of the Veterans Circle and the roadways leading up to the Circle within a 100-yard radius. They will also regularly verify the serviceability of the flag, halyard, and pole.
Chairman Eversole approached Mayor Wamp with a vision to transform the free space in the center of the roundabout into a lasting memorial for those who pass by to reflect on their freedoms with special gratitude to the more than 22,000 veterans who call Hamilton County home.
