Chattanooga, Tennessee- Kelsey Goldisen, a Pre-K parent at Wolftever Creek Elementary School, is a shining example of how parents can help create a community of belonging and engagement. Kelsey volunteers at the school every Friday, which allows her to grow her connection to the school in all aspects.

When Kelsey's son began Pre-K, it was the first time anyone outside their family was keeping him. Kelsey felt her presence in the school would help his transition, and her son loves having her there to say hi and eat lunch with him. Spending time in her son's school is a stress reliever for Kelsey, as it fills her with joy to connect with her son and help others. “I love meeting my son’s friends and their families. My favorite part of volunteering is being involved with this side of my son’s life and keeping our relationship strong.”
Kelsey has found that volunteering at the school has given her a sense of purpose and fulfillment beyond just being a parent. She runs the "Happy Cart" on Fridays, a cart filled with goodies for teachers to get a pick-me-up at the end of the week. This is a small gesture that has a big impact on the school community and staff morale.
